The A75 highway was unfinished before the viaduct the area could be crossed by a bridge located at the bottom of the valley in the town of Millau. Millau was then a big traffic problem. Miles of traffic james and hours of waiting to cross the town happened every year in summer. It slowed down considerably the A75 highway which was free of cost for about 340 kms.
14 years of studies and 3 years of work: the Millau Viaduct is the achievement of an exceptional project and a great success for French egineers.
